Sculpted Wedges: From Real Ice or 3D Printing?

United Nude launches unique footwear that brags the incredible power of 3D printing.
The fashion’s future has always been connected to the advancement in our technology.
Now that most are relying heavily to 3D printing technology, most designers can come
off with new and unique designs that look almost impossible. The high class United
Nude known for their shoe products and a 3D printing business, 3D system partnered
with each other to make every shopaholic’s dream came into life, intricate and one-of-a-
kind shoes.

Standing at eight inches tall (about 21 centimetres), the icy heels were printed using 3D
Systems’ CubePro desktop. These are big shoes to fill as it was both technological and
spatial. PLA printing filament was used to make the soles where stitched leather straps
were later combined after printing the structure. The main goal was to make the shoes
look like it was carved straight out of real ice blocks. The shoes were first launched at Vogue Fashion’s Night Out and also at the opening of
the United Nude Pop-Up store in Taiwan’s capital on September 16.

According to Rem D. Koolhaas, United Nude’s Creative Director, 3D printing technology
gives us the possibility to think and create things with new designs and visions much
quicker than before, less the huge development costs and for very small quantities.
Unfortunately, for all those shopaholics out there, the shoes are not up for sale. You
might as well start to master your own 3D printing experience first.
